Plans to develop Lakshadweep into a major tourism destination, with villas in the lagoon and other measures have been in the news recently. Tourism development promises job opportunities and revenue, but there are also questions on the impacts of this kind of tourism on the ecosystem and local livelihoods, carrying capacity of the islands and community participation.
