Paul Gonsalves founded EQUATIONS in 1985, was its coordinator till 1993 and remained an involved and supportive member of its General Body until his passing away in January 2007. With a wide range of interests and the ability to engage with so many different people, each of us have special memories of Paul.

This collection of memories about Paul and a celebration of his life, passion and work also include some of his writing that has influenced many of us in EQUATIONS and our extended circle and network friends in the way we think and understand tourism.

EQUATIONS is a research, policy, and advocacy organisation working on tourism and development issues in India. Our work has focused on the economic, environmental, social, cultural, political and administrative impacts of tourism particularly on people living in and around tourism destinations. We collaborate closely with organisations and peoples movements, to influence people-centered forms of tourism & policies that ensure significant local benefits and take into account the negative impacts of an unbridled growth of tourism.
