We buy one million plastic bottles every minute, a large quantity of them ending up in our forests, beaches or mountain tops. The challenge of tourism is far from finished. As tourism destinations elsewhere go into decline, developers are looking at hitherto untapped potential for the places in India. This publication aims to deepen the concern over ill-advised tourism policy and developments in India, with a focus on environmental destruction and possible legal recourse. The materials brought together include the following: news about recent tourism policies and projects, critical statements on the Visit India Year and the New Economic Policy (and its links with tourism) and extracts from judgments and petitions of court cases relating to tourism (involving specific hotels) in India.
