Documentation Update April 2006-2007
April 30, 2007
This edition of the DocUpdate consists of News clippings from Newspapers across the country for the period April 2006-June 2007. With a 9 percent annual growth rate, India's travel and tourism economy generated an estimated $31 Billion of economic activity in 2004, and is expected to generate $121 Billion of economic activity by 2015. But, what does not get accepted as the industry and governments continue to promote tourism is that it puts tremendous pressure on infrastructure, culture and environment on each tourist destination. This DocUpdate compilation of News clippings intends to illustrate this and show how tourism continues to be a driving force that prompted governments to dilute, repeal and change laws and policies related to environmental protection, social and democratic goals, political rights and protection of the fundamental rights of the people to life and livelihood.
