Vivek Trivedi, Bhopal:

In a breather to both wild inhabitants and their protectors from perpetual tourism activity, the State Forest Department has ordered a weekly closure of national parks in Madhya Pradesh. The directives will initially be implemented at three such national parks in the State.

The national parks, which would be closed once a week in accordance with the new directives include, Bandhavgarh, Kanha and Pench. The order would come into effect from April 1. The decision for implementing the decision at remaining national parks in the State would be taken at a later date.

“Aiming to reduce tourism pressure on national parks, directives have been issued for implementing the existing provision of a weekly off,” said State Chief Wildlife Warden (CWLW) HS Pabla.

Forest officials say the step would be beneficial in many ways. Firstly, it would enable park employees to devote some time to their families, said Bandhavgarh Field Director CK Patil.
