Coastal Authority Orders Razing of Two Hotels

The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) on Friday ordered demolition of two hotels and a compound hall in the Morjim-Mandrem belt, which violated Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification of 1991. The GCZMA in one of the three different orders passed directed demolition of Hotel Papa Jolley situated in survey no 187/50 of Morjim village. It found that the hotel having 12 rooms was illegally constructed in violation of the provision of the CRZ notification. Michael D’Souza, member secretary of GCZMA also directed PWD and Electricity Department to disconnect water and electricity supply to the hotel.

It is very unfortunate that to attract more tourists we distort our culture and portray it in a manner which is liked by them. Goa's unique and distinct culture is simply not being displayed. Goan tourism has only focused on the beach side and eco-tourism is almost ignored. We hide the natural heritage of Goa which lies far away from the beaches in talukas like Sattari, Quepem, Canacona and Sanguem.
