Regional Consultation on Status of Forest Governance in Nagarhole, Bandipur, Mudumalai and Wayanad

Organised by All India Forum of Forest Movement (AIFFM) and EQUATIONS

21-22 December 2012, Gudalur

Over the past 2 years, the All India Forum of Forest Movement (AIFFM) and EQUATIONS (in partnership with the Global Forest Coalition) has been involved in studying the implications and impacts of current Indian forest legislations, policies and governance, status and implementation of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIPS) in India and India’s compliance on the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). An outcome of a consultation we conducted in Bangalore in 2011 was the need to study the status of forest governance in the forest areas of South India as well as that of the implementation of the FRA, based on which a strategy could be developed at the regional level to take this work forward. AIFFM and EQUATIONS conducted this work in Nagarhole, Bandipur, Mudumalai and Wayanad.

This consultation is being held to share the draft report with people who have participated in the study and to arrive at a broad strategy for future work.
