The Government of Maharashtra, Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC) and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (MTDC) in association with MultiNet Worldwide will be celebrating ‘Visit Golden Maharashtra Year’ from April 2010 to March 2011. The year-long celebration will kick start with a two-day business conference from April 20-21, 2010 in Mumbai. Ashok Chavan, Chief Minister, Maharashtra will inaugurate the conference on April 20, 2010.

MEDC has tied up with TravelBiz Monitor, sister publication of Hospitality Biz, as the knowledge partner for the conference and year-round activity. The conference will be organised in association with tourism industry associations such as Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), The Hotel & Restaurant Association Western India (HRAWI), Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), India Association of Tour Operators (IATO), Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) and Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) to reach all the stakeholders of tourism and hospitality sector in India.

The business conference will highlight the potential for development in Rural Tourism, Agro Tourism, Adventure Tourism, Pilgrimage Tourism, Bollywood Tourism, Heritage Tourism, Medical Tourism, Cultural Tourism, Ecotourism and MICE in Maharashtra and chart course for harnessing the untapped potential of these tourism segments within the state. MTDC and some of the prominent stakeholders from private sector will display their products and services on the sidelines of the conference.

The principal objectives of the conference will be to highlight the status and prospects of tourism in Maharashtra; to assess the policy initiatives of the government of Maharashtra; to create a platform for exploring ‘Public-Private Partnership’ in the tourism sector in Maharashtra by showcasing specific projects for the private sector investment; to facilitate the creation of a white paper on tourism for the Government of Maharashtra on the suggested future course for Maharashtra Tourism.
