Card to have two options: Day Travel Card and Week Travel Card

22 February 2010

Anita Jain, New Delhi:

Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) recently held a joint meeting with officials of Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation with regards to the launch of its `Travel Card’ for Common Wealth Games (CWG) 2010 to be held in Delhi in October. According to Rajinder Rai, President, TAAI; the Association presented details, facts, figures and requirements of the ‘Travel Card’ and is aiming to launch the Card by August this year.
“We have chalked out the blue print and details of the Travel Card and presented the same to the Ministry. We are awaiting the nod from them and once we receive it, we will go ahead with the plans of launching it through our multiple distribution channels,” informed Rai. According to Rai the `Travel Card’ scheme will have two options: ‘Day Travel Card’ and ‘Week Travel Card’ which will enable card holders to commute on local tourist buses and metro trains in Delhi city. TAAI is also going to operate two Volvo buses which will offer free Delhi day tour to international travellers during CWG.  TAAI had announced the plans to launch the Travel Card in July last year in order to make local travel more convenient for international tourists during CWG 2010.
