MoT To Create A Dedicated Investment Desk In The Ministry
To conduct road shows abroad to attract potential foreign investors into tourism sector

28 July 2016
New Delhi: Ministry of Tourism(MoT) as a prelude to the first ever Incredible India Tourism Investors Meet scheduled in Delhi between September 21 and 23, will set up a dedicated Investors’ desk in MoT. The Investors Desk will be a permanent set up in Ministry to facilitate with information and support for investors. This was informed by Vinod Zutshi, Secretary Tourism, Government of India, while speaking at the second Tourism Investors’ Summit organised by FICCI in Delhi. “The desk will be a new entity and play an important role in handholding the investors,” Zutshi said.
Speaking on the Ministry’s first Investors’ Meet, Zutshi said that attempt is to finalise as many MoUs as possible before the event and also at the event itself. In order to invite foreign investors into the Investors’ Meet, MoT will embark on a series of road shows in cities abroad in collaboration with the Indian missions abroad, Zutshi said. These roadshows will be organised in countries like Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China, the UK, USA, etc. in the next couple of weeks.
Speaking about investments into the Tourism sector, Zutshi said that the focus has so far been on creating demand rather than on the supply side like infrastructure, facilities, etc. The mismatch in demand and supply has created issues of carrying capacity at destinations, he said. “We are late in creating international infrastructure. We have to run fast to catch up international destinations,” he said.

Tourism secretary said that Task Forces have been set up with different Ministries of the Government to overcome issues faced by tourists in relation to air, rail and road connectivity to destinations.
