Manohar Lal, Shimla: "Currently, tourism contributes 9.7 per cent of the total GSDP and is one of the major source of economy development and employment generation both directly and indirectly," said Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who also hold the tourism portfolio, in his reply to a resolution moved under rule -130 of Assembly by BJP MLA Govind Thakur.

He said that State Government is planning to develop rural tourism, eco-tourism, religious tourism and community tourism which would increase the tourist inflow in the State.

"For the purpose of boosting tourism, dedicated publicity campaign will be launched in the zone of origins about tourist destinations and road shows will be conducted to create awareness," said Singh.

He said that the State Government is mulling to frame a policy for decongestion of traffic on Manali-Rohtang highway and a committee headed by chief secretary is looking into the matter.

Ropeway from Palchang to Rohtang project is being implemented in the State apart from Manali vision document which was cleared by the Cabinet.

Earlier, initiating discussion BJP MLA, Govind Singh Thakur stressed the need for developing new tourist destinations in high hills, which would boost tourism in a major way.

Fish farming registers record 7,574 tonnes of production in Himachal Pisciculture and Trout (a fresh water fish) farming is fast emerging as a booming industrial activity in the hill State due to topographical conditions and large number of people are coming forward to take up the profession.

Replying to a question in the ongoing Budget session of the Assembly, Fishery Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri said that fishery recorded Rs 50.26 crore businesses in the State in the year 2012-13, after registering record 7,574.70 tones fish production.

He said that this profession was rendering livelihood for about 4,538 households, as 2,094 families were engaged in fish farming at Govind Sagar in Bilaspur and Una district and 2,303 families in Pong dam in Kangra district.
