Mumbai: Kerala’s first Immigration, Visa, Foreigner Registration & Tracking (IVFRT) system was recently inaugurated by V J Kurien IAS, Managing Director, Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), at the office of the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) at the airport. The ceremony was attended by Santhosh Kumar Nair, FRR Officer, and A C K Nair, Director, CIAL. V J Kurien also handed over the first registration certificate of the Kochi FRRO processed through the new IVFRT system to a Spanish national, The New Indian Express reported.

The IVFRT, which is fully an online tracking system, is a security system with a central depository of information of all the foreign nationals in India or who visit India so that their period of stay, place of accommodation, etc., are known. The system is designed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), New Delhi.

“There are many foreign nationals who are still in the country after their visas have expired, and this new tracking system will enable the FRRO, the surveillance agency on foreign nationals, to locate them easily,” said Raju, State Co-ordinator, NIC. A unique case file is created for all foreign nationals who visit India so that the same is accessible to all agencies. The system is connected with 179 Indian missions abroad, 81 immigration check posts, 12 FRROs and 716 foreign registration offices throughout the country.
