In a bid to boost tourism, the Uttar Pradesh Department of Tourism is planning to develop passenger ropeways at Barsana, Ashtabhuja and Chitrakut under the Public-Private Partnership model. The department has already invited proposals from consultancy firms for executing these ropeway projects. According to Uttar Pradesh Tourism, the hired consultancy firm will carry out the necessary studies, and prepare both a feasibility report and a master plan for the three projects. Uttar Pradesh received approximately 1460 lakh tourists in 2010.
