Leasing Out Govt. Guest Houses Smells Fishy, BJP Believes A&N FPDCL Could Manage Them Well

08 November 2011

Port Blair:
The State President, BJP Shri R Mohan has taken up the issue of privatization of govt. guest houses with the Lt. Governor and the Chief Secretary. In his letter he mentioned that it has come to Party's knowledge that Tourism department of A&N Administration has decided to lease out all its guest houses to the private hoteliers and the party records its strong protest on it.

It is a matter to regret and surprise that when the flow of inland and foreign tourists have increased the Tourism Deptt. is incurring loss through its chain of guest houses. When in other States of India, the tourism department is earning handsome revenue, the local Tourism department is running in loss? The loss is due to lack of efficient management or something else, which made the Administration decide for leasing out of its guest houses.

If such is the case, the State President requested the Lt. Governor and the Chief Secretary to atleast handover the guest houses, if not all, the Guest houses available at Port Blair, Hutbay and Mayabunder to the A&NIFPDCL with all its infrastructure and Government grant.

The party believes that the Corporation with its efficient Management will earn its livelihood for its employees. If not the Administration should take over the management of the said corporation and handover the Tourism department to it.

Mohan also added that the services of DRMs and other contractual employees engaged for this purpose may be protected by allowing them to serve in other departments of the local Administration.
