DoNER Project To Promote Adventure Tourism In NE

15 June 2011

NEW DELHI: Adventure tourism has been chosen as a tool by the DoNER Ministry to attract youths from across the country to visit the Northeast and know its culture and heritage, a move aimed at addressing the sense of alienation among people of the region. Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) BK Handique today launched a pilot programme named ‘Youth on the Edge’ under which youths from various parts of the country will be taken to bordering areas of the Northeast for adventure activities. “We have devised ‘Youth on the Edge’ with the primary objective of encouraging movements of youth from the rest of India to the border areas of the North Eastern States to participate in structured adventure activities thereby furthering the cause of national integration,” said Handique.
