Three Inter-State Regional Conferences have already been organized at New Delhi (for North Central States/UT Administrations) on August 18, 2009; at Gangtok, Sikkim (for East and North East States) on December 6, 2009 and at Bangalore (Southern States/UT Administrations) on January 16, 2010.

Children not included in inclusive Budget

Orissa govt approves Rs 718 crore for tourism development

According to a PTI report, the Orissa government has approved a five-year prospective plan of Rs 718 crore for development of tourism in the state, including employment generation in the sector. The plan was prepared last year and some projects taken up last year were brought under it. “The plan envisages job to about 4.2 lakh people, including direct jobs to 1.2 lakh,” said Debi P Mishra, Tourism Minister, Orissa after Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Orissa approved the plan.

Railway Budget Update: Railway Budget 2010-11 gives thrust to Trans-Asian Rail Network

The Railway Budget announced by Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for 2010-11 highlighted the government’s initiative to kick start a new rail route between India and Bangladesh. High level discussions are on between the governments of two countries to launch these services. The proposed rail route between the two countries is Akhaura in Bangladesh and Agartala in India.

Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 today in New Delhi, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee proposed to start various special trains in India along with enhancing connectivity through improving the rail network on inter and intra state level. Banerjee said that tourist trains will be launched on 21 routes and ten more Duronto (non-stop) trains will be launched. The new budget proposes to run a special tourist trains called ‘Bharat Tirth’ connecting popular tourist sites in India- from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari, Dwarka to Vindhya Paarbat, Ajmer to Gangasagar and Madurai to Patna. “The running of ‘Bharat Tirth’ will emphasise on our ‘Unity in Diversity’. The ‘Bharat Tirth’ trains are proposed to run on a total of 16 different routes in India,” added Banerjee.

The president of state unit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  and Mandrem MLA, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar, who attended the Morjim gram sabha, on Sunday, said that the locals should not encourage the Russian tourists too much.“With the increase in the number of the Russian tourists here in Morjim they are indulging in ‘dadagiri’ (bullying) and we should not encourage these Russian tourists too much,” said the BJP chief.
