The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has constituted an Ecotourism committee to formulate tourism guidelines for tiger reserves. The idea is to protect tiger sanctuaries from any interference or disturbance by tourists. According to a report in Times of India, presently the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department follows some ‘do-not-disturb-tiger’ guidelines and strictly adheres to the advisories issued by NTCA from time to time. A seven member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Sujit Banerjee, Secretary (Retd), Ministry of Tourism to finalise the guidelines for Forest and Wildlife Ecotourism, according to a Press Information Bureau release today. The committee will firm up the guidelines for Forest and Wildlife Ecotourism in the context of advisories issued by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, the Wildlife (Protection) Act and the Forest (Conservation) Act. Govt signs loan agreement with ADB worth US$ 123 mn

Recent years have seen some large increases in the budgets of National Tourism Organizations (NTOs) in emerging economies, a new joint UNWTO and European Travel Commission (ETC) report has revealed. In spite of the difficult economic climate, the report, Budgets of National Tourism Organizations, 2008-2009, reveals that some two thirds of the surveyed NTOs saw an increase in their budgets in 2009, although at a lower rate of growth than that registered between 2006 and 2008. This growth was particularly significant in emerging economies.

MOFPI approves scheme on Up gradation of Quality of Street Food

According to a PIB release, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) has mooted a scheme on ‘Up gradation of Quality of Street Food’ for implementation during the 11th Plan period. This information was given by Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister for Food Processing Industries in the Rajya Sabha recently. The scheme is yet to be approved by the Ministry of Finance for implementation on a pilot basis in 11 cities (for ‘Safe Food Town’ component) and in six cities (for ‘Food-Street’ component). The outcome of these pilot projects will help MOFPI in implementation of the scheme more effectively in the 12th Five Year Plan.

Goa tourism ministry allows vendors to operate on beaches
