They can stay in a mud or brick house or an eco-cottage. The most popular activity, Chhabra said, is drawing water from the well and pouring it over one’s head. Saguna Baug, a similar venture in Raigad district, even offers water buffalo rides to tourists.

Expansion of the Santa Monica jetty, three bus parking lots, including a multi-storeyed parking for boat-cruise tourists' vehicles and a tourist information plaza in Panaji are some of the features of an ambitious tourism mega project planned by the Goa government, according to a Times of India report. The central government has already sanctioned 43 crore for the project. The mega project also includes the construction of about 15 interpretation centres all over North Goa in addition to the 7.47 crore tourism package for the development of Old Goa.

The Centre has released Rs 225 crore to the Maharashtra government for boosting tourism in the coastal belt. The amount has been disbursed on the recommendation of the finance commission and the state is among the first five in the country to have received such a massive aid. "We had submitted a comprehensive action plan for developing the Konkan region. Our proposal has been accepted and we have actually received the money. In fact, some of the projects have already been launched and we are determined to implement the entire plan in a time-bound period," said Chhagan Bhujbal, tourism and public works minister.
