The working group of Tourism set up by the planning commission has recommended four fold increase in the allotment of funds for tourism during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2016). An amount of Rs. 21500 crore may be allotted as against the allocation of Rs. 5156 crore during 11th Plan. This was announced by the Union Minister for Tourism, Shri Subodh Kant Sahai while addressing the meeting of the Consultative Committee of Parliament attached to his Ministry here last evening. Substantial proportion of the estimated outlay is proposed to be allocated for improvement of tourism infrastructure, human resource development, capacity building and promotion and publicity.

India And Israel To Enhance Tourism Cooperation

India and Israel have decided to enhance cooperation in Tourism Sector. This was decided at a meeting between Mr. Stas Misezhnikov, Tourism Minister of Israel and Union Tourism Minister, Shri Subodh Kant Sahai held here today. Welcoming the visiting dignitary, Shri Sahai said both the countries can explore the possibilities of cooperation in wellness, spiritual and religious tourism. The Israeli Minister said hoteliers of his country are interested to set up hotels in India. He also requested for more flights between India and Israel. Mr. Stas Misezhnikov invited Shri Sahai to visit Israel.

The Ministry of Tourism undertook an independent assessment of the ground situation in select National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in the country, through the students of various Institutes of Hotel Management, affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT). This assessment was done for hotels, lodges, resorts, camps & guest houses in six National Parks during December, 2009 to June, 2010.

Setback For Jumbo Corridor

THE Supreme Court has temporarily stayed an order of the Madras High Court, asking resort owners near Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu to vacate the land. In April, the high court had given resort owners three months to hand over the land with them to the state to pave the way for an elephant corridor in the Nilgiri mountains. The corridor would connect Mudumalai to the Sathyamangalam forests in the east of the Segur plateau.
