PANAJI: Considering that eco-tourism has huge potential in Goa, Goa assembly's ad hoc committee on tourism has recommended setting up of an independent eco-tourism enforcement wing to provide policy support for eco-tourism in the state.

The committee consisting of Pandurang Madkaikar (chairman) and ReginaldoLourenco and Milind Naik (members) have stressed the need for a more focused strategy which includes close monitoring of ecologically sensitive and sustainable areas.

It has also recommended that a management plan for each eco-toruism area should be prepared with the help of professional landscape architects and urban planners in consultation with local communities to avoid inter and cross-sectoral conflicts.

The committee has also called for steps to promote the use of local eco-friendly material, define development and buffer zones after proper environmental impact assessments, enforce rules in order to control adverse effects of tourism-related activities.

The ad hoc panel has also recommended that the work of beautification of Baina beach be expedited on war footing but after an indepth study of the project as regards ownership of land, position of land vis-a-vis CRZ regulations, public private participation or BOOT basis development.

Regarding vigil on the coastal belt, the committee has suggessted that the state government.
